Long ago, this waterfront area was crowded with shops and offices of vendors plying there wares, and thus the name Vendue Range. Here great sailing ships once loaded cotton, rice and indigo for transport around the world, and with the advent of steam power, passenger lines left Vendue Range for journeys to Philadelphia, New York and Boston.
After shipping fortunes dried up along the old range in the mid-20th century, the area was revitalized with the creation of beautiful Waterfront Park, filled with grand fountains and spectacular views of historic Charleston Harbor.
